Arsenal have received a massive boost after Robin Van Persie declared his love for the club and hinted he is ready to sign a new contract.
The Dutchman is currently enjoying his most prolific season to date, having bagged 29 goals in 35 appearances.
With Arsenal enduring a disappointing campaign and van Persie yet to extend his contract beyond the summer of 2013, speculation has engulfed the striker’s future, but after describing himself as a “true Gooner”, van Persie has given his clearest indication yet that he will commit to the club.
“I have been at Arsenal for eight years and I’m proud. At the end of the season I will sit down with the coach [Arsene Wenger] and the president [Stan Kroenke],” said van Persie to Voetbal International.
“Then we will make a cup of coffee and sit down together. I am a true Gooner. I love this club and that’s no secret.”
The rise of rivals Tottenham has lead many to ponder whether a power shift has occurred in north London, but van Persie scoffed at that suggestion following Sunday’s dramatic 5-2 win against Harry Redknapp’s side.
“What’s funny is that people are discussing the best Tottenham team ever and the worst Arsenal team. And we just beat Tottenham. Funny how strange football can be,” he added.
